Princeton assistant coach Jim Ward has been named the new head coach at Connecticut College. He replaces Doug Roberts, who stepped down at the end of last season following 24 years at the helm.
Ward, who has spent the last three seasons at Princeton, was previously the head coach at Northfield-Mount Hermon (Mass.) Prep School for seven years. He’s also been an assistant at Norwich and Union.
“We are excited to add a professional like Jim Ward to our department,” said Fran Shields, CC’s incoming athletic director. “He has a wealth of hockey coaching experience and a firm understanding of what it takes to run a successful program at a highly selective liberal arts institution. His Ivy League and prep school experience will pay dividends for our student-athletes.”
Roberts, a former NHL all-star with the California Golden Seals in 1971, was 252-249-28 with the Camels. He won a Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins, and also played in the WHA with the Hartford Whalers. He was an all-America player at Michigan State.
