Minnesota State coach Troy Jutting won’t have to worry about his contract status going into the 2003-04 season.
Jutting, the 2003 WCHA coach of the year, has signed a new four-year contract that replaces a four-year deal that was set to expire at the end of next season. He’ll make $110,923 as a base salary, with performance incentives based on personal and team achievement.
“I have very strong feelings towards this university and community,” Jutting said in a news release. “As I said when I was hired for this position, this is where I want to be and this contract means that we can continue to work towards the goals that we have set as a program.”
Jutting’s Mavericks tied for second place in the WCHA last season after being picked for eighth in the preseason coaches’ poll. They finished 20-11-10 and earned their first Division I NCAA tournament bid.
Jutting, a former Minnesota State player, was hired to replace Don Brose, the coach that built the hockey program at the school then known as Mankato State, in 2000. In three years, Jutting has a 55-49-13 record.
“I look at this contract as an investment in the future of our hockey program,” Minnesota State athletics director Kevin Buisman said. “Coach Jutting has demonstrated great leadership ability, and this commitment to him ensures the long-term viability of MSU hockey.”
The school also rewarded assistant coaches Darren Blue and Eric Means with two-year contract extensions.
