College Sports Television (CSTV), the first 24-hour college sports network, has announced the first-ever national college hockey game of the week package. The package, which will debut Oct. 3, features 11 of the 16 teams that competed in last season’s NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey championships, including champion Minnesota and semifinalists New Hampshire, Cornell and Michigan.
CSTV’s second-half schedule begins Friday, January 16, extends through the remainder of the season, and will include extensive coverage of the post-season and championship tournaments. Details will be announced at a later date.
CSTV will provide a special presentation of the Everblades Classic, Dec. 27-28 from Estero, Fla. (Cornell, Notre Dame, Maine, Ohio State), and will also televise on Dec. 12 a women’s game pitting Harvard against two-time defending national champion Minnesota-Duluth, a re-match of the 2002 NCAA Division I women’s championship game, which Minnesota-Duluth won in double overtime.
Eric Frede and Steve Schlanger will alternate play-by-play duties on CSTV Friday Night Hockey, while Billy Jaffe and Dave Starman will provide analysis. Ellen Weinberg will be the analyst for the women’s telecasts. Mike Eruzione, the former Boston University star who captained the 1980 United States “Miracle on Ice” gold medal-winning team, will provide studio analysis on select Fridays within the network’s CSTV Primetime show immediately preceding CSTV Friday Night Hockey telecasts.
