Boston University has removed senior forward David Klema from the team. Sports Information Director Ed Carpenter characterized the move as a “coach’s decision” but added that Terrier Coach Jack Parker would not elaborate on the reasons behind it.
Klema, a senior, tantalized the Terrier program with flashes of brilliance during his three years with the team. As a freshman, playing alongside more highly touted recruits in Ryan Whitney, Brian McConnell, Justin Maiser, and Bryan Miller, Klema played in all 38 Terrier games, scoring six goals and ten assists. As a fifth-round draft pick of the Phoenix Coyotes, he obviously possessed considerable skill.
In his subsequent two seasons, however, Parker seemed to sour on the Roseau, MN native. Klema played 28 games in his sophomore season, then just 26 last season. He never matched his point-scoring total as a freshman, and Parker occasionally voiced frustrations regarding his effort, discipline, and tendency to play “pond hockey.”
Klema was a healthy scratch in many games as a sophomore, and he also missed time last season due to a shoulder injury.
BU now only has three seniors on this year’s team: captain and center McConnell, defenseman Miller, and walk-on forward Matt Radoslovich.
