Plymouth State has hired a new women’s ice hockey coach to lead the program in its first varsity season in 2006-07.
The new women’s ice hockey coach at Plymouth State is Heather Hoffay, a graduate of Hamilton College who has served as assistant women’s ice hockey coach at both Trinity College and Wesleyan University. She is the first varsity women’s ice hockey coach at PSU, as the sport was elevated to varsity status this year after several seasons as a club sport.
A 2003 graduate of Hamilton, Hoffay was a four-year letterwinner in both ice hockey and volleyball and a three-year letterwinner in softball. She was very involved in the Hamilton Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and graduated magna cum laude with a double major (Psychology and Classical Studies).
Hoffay served two years as assistant women’s ice hockey coach at Trinity from 2003-05 before serving last season as assistant coach at Wesleyan while working towards her Masters degree. She has also worked several ice hockey camps, including summer camps at Cornell and Brown University and the USA Hockey New England Player Development Camp.
“I am looking forward to joining the Plymouth State athletic staff and helping start the women’s ice hockey program,” said Hoffay. “Over the past several years, I have experienced what is necessary for a young program to grow and prosper, and the impact that young, strong student-athletes can have on team dynamics. I’m excited about working with everyone at Plymouth State.”
“We are happy to have Heather Hoffay coming to Plymouth State as our new women’s ice hockey coach,” said PSU athletic director John P. Clark. “We had a strong pool of candidates and she emerged as the top choice and the best fit for PSU. We’re excited about starting women’s ice hockey as one of our two new varsity sports (along with cheerleading), and we think she will do a great job building the program.”
