Boston College tightened its grip on first place in Monday’s USCHO.com/CSTV Division I men’s poll Monday, after a win over Northeastern in the Eagles’ first game of the season. BC received 31 of 40 first-place votes to remain No. 1 for the third straight poll.
Wisconsin and North Dakota, which split a series in Madison, Wis., last weekend, were second and third, respectively, followed by Maine, which moved up to fourth from seventh last week after sweeping Bemidji State. Michigan, which beat Alabama-Huntsville and Connecticut, was fifth.
No. 6 was Boston University, which dropped three spots after tying Rensselaer Saturday. The Terriers were followed by Minnesota, which won a pair against visiting Wayne State.
Michigan State slipped four spots from last week’s poll to land in eighth after splitting a home-and-home series with Western Michigan, while Miami held in ninth in the wake of a pair of wins over Canisius. No. 10 was Vermont, unchanged from last week after tying Northeastern.
Denver led off the next 10 teams in the poll, at No. 11. The Pioneers split a road series with St. Cloud State, which sat at No. 17 in Monday’s rankings.
Three teams which have yet to begin their regular seasons were next, with New Hampshire, Harvard and Cornell occupying spots No. 12 through 14. Clarkson came in at No. 15 with a win at Providence and a tie at Massachusetts.
Colorado College, St. Cloud State, Dartmouth, Nebraska-Omaha and Colgate rounded out the poll. The Mavericks and the Raiders entered after being unranked the preceding week, replacing Ohio State and Northern Michigan.
