Well, maybe I jinxed a few teams this week. In my 10/30 blog entry, I had Plattsburgh and Fredonia as teams off to good starts…and looked what happened. Platty goes 0-2 in Western New York and Fredonia loses on home ice in the regular season for the first time in two years – 26 games.
I guess the jinx works both ways since I picked Potsdam as a team off to a slow start, and the Bears swept Fredonia and Buffalo State to be one of only two SUNYAC squads to go 2-0 on opening weekend.
Out West, the NCHA got the better of the MIAC, going 12-3-1 in inter-conference play. The teams are at it again next weekend, with 16 more games scheduled between the two leagues.
And finally, the ECAC West standings look quite different at this early stage than they league’s preseason coach’s poll. Manhattanville, expected to finish fourth this season, posted some big early wins against Elmira and Hobart, the top two teams in the preseason poll. Is it too early for a must-win game? Elmira (0-4) hosts Hobart this Saturday. But the Soaring Eagles can’t look past Buffalo State on Tuesday. The Bengals upset Plattsburgh 7-4 last weekend.
