The St. Anselm men’s hockey team is the favorite to win the Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Ice Hockey Championship according to the preseason coaches’ poll.
The Hawks received 35 points, including five first-place votes, edging second pick Southern New Hampshire. The Penmen took 28 points and the remaining first-place bid.
St. Michael’s took third in the poll with 26 points, while Stonehill (18) was fourth, Assumption (12) was picked fifth, and Franklin Pierce (7) was picked sixth.
In the 2006 Northeast-10 Ice Hockey Championship, St. Anselm defeated Southern New Hampshire, 5-3, in the title game to repeat as the Northeast-10 Tournament Champion.
The six Division II teams from the ECAC East and ECAC Northeast compete for the Northeast-10 championship. The NCAA does not offer a championship in D-II hockey and the teams are excluded from their league playoffs because those conferences use the postseason to select their automatic qualifiers to the D-III tournament.
