St. Norbert College announced the addition of women’s hockey to its existing intercollegiate athletic programs, to commence play in the fall of 2010.
The women’s hockey program will become a member of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association, which will have 10 teams in its women’s league with the addition of St. Norbert in 2010-11. The league’s current members are Concordia (WI) University, Finlandia University, Lake Forest College, Wis.-Eau Claire, Wis.-River Falls, Wis.-Stevens Point and Wis.-Superior. Adrian College and Marian University are both slated to start play in the NCHA in 2009-10. The winner of the NCHA receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
A national search for a head coach will begin immediately. The chosen candidate will be part of the athletic department staff for the 2009-2010 academic year, allowing for a full year of recruiting to prepare for the inaugural season.
St. Norbert will play its home games at the Cornerstone Community Center’s Resch Olympic Pavilion. The Green Knight’s will become the nation’s 49th D-III women’s Hockey program.
