Boston University maintained its position atop the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports Division I men’s poll for a fourth straight week in Monday’s release, though the Terriers’ margin narrowed compared to the last two weeks.
BU, which tied Northeastern twice over the weekend in a battle for the top of the Hockey East standings, earned 31 first-place votes compared to 19 for No. 2 Notre Dame, which swept Nebraska-Omaha to clinch the CCHA regular-season title.
The Fighting Irish and the Terriers have held down the top two spots in the poll for eight straight weeks and BU remained unbeaten in its last 12 games, the nation’s longest such streak.
Michigan held at No. 3 after splitting with Ohio State, while Northeastern was again fourth in the rankings. Coming in at No. 5 was Denver, which climbed three spots after sweeping Wisconsin.
Making a move up the chart was sixth-ranked Princeton, which rose four places with wins over Brown and Yale. Next on the list was No. 7 Miami, down two notches in the wake of a one-point weekend against Northern Michigan (though Miami won Saturday for CCHA purposes via shootout).
North Dakota swept Alaska-Anchorage and moved up one place to No. 8, followed by ninth-ranked Vermont. The Catamounts fell three spots after a tie and a loss against Massachusetts-Lowell. Completing the top half of the poll was Cornell, up one position in the wake of victories over Rensselaer and Union.
No. 11 Yale slid four notches after tying Quinnipiac and losing to Princeton, while New Hampshire held its ground in 12th. The Wildcats beat Boston College twice over the weekend.
Colorado College made the biggest jump over last week’s poll, rising five spots to No. 13 with its sweep of Minnesota. Next in line was Minnesota Duluth, up one place to 14th after taking three of four points from Michigan Tech. Ohio State also climbed one spot, to No. 15.
Wisconsin fell three positions to 16th, followed by St. Lawrence, which ascended three places to No. 17 after tying Harvard and beating Dartmouth.
Minnesota was down four to No. 18 while St. Cloud State was still 19th after a bye week, and Massachusetts-Lowell joined the poll at No. 20.
Dropping out of the poll for the first time all season was Boston College.
