Denver’s Matt Donovan scored his second goal in as many games, and Boston College’s Chris Kreider added a goal in the United States’ 3-0 victory over Switzerland on Sunday in the World Junior Championship.
Jack Campbell stopped 22 shots, 14 of them in the first period, for the Americans, who improved to 2-0.
AJ Jenks also scored for the U.S., which plays Latvia on Tuesday.
Benjamin Conz made 46 saves for Switzerland (0-1).
“I thought we stuck to our game plan and eventually wore them down,” U.S. coach Dean Blais said. “Both goaltenders played extremely well. I thought Jack really made some key saves in the first period to keep the game scoreless.”
Switzerland outshot the Americans 14-11 in the first period, but the U.S. held a 38-8 shots advantage after that point.
Kreider scored 5:57 into the second period, and Donovan and Jenks scored in the third.
Kreider was named the Americans’ player of the game.
