Multiple sources have confirmed that New Hampshire and Team Canada star Jenn Wakefield is transferring from UNH to Hockey East rival Boston University.
The five-foot-nine 20-year-old from Pickering, Ont. led the Wildcats in goals and scoring last year as a sophomore, potting 32 goals with 17 assists in 31 games. Her 49 points edged her freshman-year 46, when she also led UNH in goals (27) and finished second on the team in scoring. In three NCAA Tournament games, Wakefield tallied two goals. She took this season off to play with Team Canada, and has yet to sign her official letter-of-intent to transfer.
Boston University will welcome the national-caliber player into a young but successful program that has already had two winning seasons in its first four as a Division-I member. BU head coach Brian Durocher declined to comment on the story.
