Just about every Atlantic Hockey team came out of the weekend with something to feel good about:
Connecticut came back from a 3-0 deficit to earn a 3-3 tie at No. 16 Union.
Canisius and Army split, with the Griffs posting a 4-0 win on Friday, but the Black Knights coming back on Saturday with a 2-1 win for their first victory of the season.
Holy Cross and Bentley both went into Matthews Arena and defeated Northeastern. It was Bentley’s first win of the season and the third hear in a row that the Falcons have beaten a Hockey East team. Holy Cross’ win came in overtime, with Gianni Baldassari lighting the lamp with 3:39 to play in the extra stanza.
RIT picked up its first two wins of the season, posting a 4-3 overtime win over formally unbeaten Robert Morris on Friday, then besting No. 14 Cornell at Lynah Rink. The Tigers kept their streak alive of beating a ranked team in each of the six years as a Division I program.
The Colonials came back from their setback at RIT to defeat Niagara on Saturday in a battle of former CHA rivals. The Purple Eagles had to settle for a 5-3 win over Mercyhurst on Friday in their first ever AHA contest.
That left the Lakers and Sacred Heart as the only AHA teams in action with nothing to crow about. The Pioneers dropped a 5-0 decision at Colgate.
How’d I Do?
I went 4-5 last weekend for a season total of 17-12-1 (.583). My upset special (Holy Cross over Northeastern) was on the mark.
Guest analyst Ryan Holt was 5-4 and correctly picked an Army-Canisius split, but in the wrong order. I may get a rematch later in the season, but I’m also looking for other folks to take me on. Drop me an email if you’re interested.
