Atlantic Hockey picks 12/3/10

Last Week: 7-5-1
On the Season: 39-30-56 (.560)

This Week’s Picks:

Eleven of the 12 AHA are in action this weekend with only Canisius idle. The Golden Griffins are off until 12/17.

Friday, December 3 and Saturday, December 4
:
Holy Cross at Air Force – The Crusaders are having better luck on the road than at home this season, but I think Air Force will come through with a sweep on home ice. Air Force 4, Holy Cross 2; Air Force 3, Holy Cross 2.

Rochester Institute of Technology at American International – RIT leads the all-time series 14-2-1. AIC is coming off a big sweep at Mercyhurst, but I think the Tigers cool off the Yellow Jackets in a pair of competitive games. RIT 5, AIC 2; RIT 2, AIC 1.

Connecticut at Niagara – This series marks the first meeting ever between the two schools. Niagara was been very tough at home so far, and I expect the Purple Eagles to sweep. Niagara 4, UConn 3; Niagara 4, UConn 2.

Bentley at Robert Morris – I think this will be the most entertaining series of the weekend, with the Colonials coming out on top. Robert Morris 2, Bentley 1; Robert Morris 4, Bentley 3.

Mercyhurst at Sacred Heart – Both teams are coming off tough weekends. The Pioneers lead the all-time series 18-14-3. Not many teams have a league winning record against the Lakers. I think this series will result in a split. Mercyhurst 4, Sacred Heart 3; Sacred Heart 2, Mercyhurst 1.

Saturday, December 4
Colgate at Army – Colgate defeated Army earlier in the season, but I like the Black Knight to prevail on home ice. Army 3, Colgate 2.

Come back Monday to see how I did.

Stood Up

No guest analyst this week as he didn’t get his picks to me on time. If you’d like to take a shot, shoot me an email.

UPDATE:

Two fans have stepped up and sent me picks. Both are from RIT.

Dave Morgan:

Holy Cross at Air Force
Air Force has traditionally been a powerhouse in the AHA, but right
now Holy Cross has the best conference win percentage. Holy Cross is
going to win at least one game this weekend, the second all depends on
the reaction from Coach Serratore after they drop the first game. My
guess; Friday, Holy Cross 4, Air Force 2. Saturday, a close one, Air
Force 3, Holy Cross 2.

RIT at AIC
RIT usually beats AIC pretty consistently. I would think it’s safe to
bet that RIT will sweep in this one, likely with a couple of high
disparity games. RIT 5, AIC 2 on Friday. RIT 4, AIC 2 on Saturday.

Connecticut at Niagara
UConn is playing decently this year, but not so much on the road.
Niagara is a tough team, and is going to protect their house. Friday:
Niagara 3, UConn 1 , Saturday: Niagara 3, UConn 0.

Bentley at Robert Morris
Look for Robert Morris to sweep Bentley in one close game, and one not
so close game. Friday: RMU 3, Bentley 2. Saturday RMU 6, Bentley 2.

Mercyhurst at Sacred Heart
These two teams both used to be teams to worry about in the AHA. This
year, Sacred Heart hasn’t been. Sacred Heart’s home advantage might
not be enough to pull out of this weekend with any points. Expect a
tie in one of these games, but making the picks: Friday: Mercyhurst 3,
Sacred Heart 2. Saturday: Mercyhurst 3, Sacred Heart 1.

Saturday non-conference game:

Colgate at Army
Colgate is not playing well this season, but really, Army isn’t
playing that well either (but still better than Colgate). This game is
going to go to whoever scores first – and I will guess Army does it.
Army 3, Colgate 1.

Chris Anderson:

Friday, December 3 and Saturday, December 4:
Holy Cross at Air Force — This is going to be a great matchup, as Holy Cross has been playing better this season. I like a split, as Air Force usually does well at home, but a young team will prevent them from getting the sweep.  Air Force 2, Holy Cross 0; Holy Cross 3, Air Force 1.

Rochester Institute of Technology at American International — AIC is playing very well of late, and just finished a great sweep last weekend, but I think RIT will get the best of them, and bring some injured players back, with a close battle the first night and a blowout the next. RIT 2, AIC 1; RIT 6, AIC 2.

Connecticut at Niagara — UConn has been slowing down, lately, and Niagara has been firing on all cylinders, powered by a great offense.  Niagara gets two wins on the weekend.  Niagara 5, UConn 3; Niagara 3, UConn 0.

Bentley at Robert Morris — This is going to be a tight weekend for these two teams, as Bentley has been having a strong start to the season and Robert Morris is certainly enjoying its first season in the AHA. I think Robert Morris will steal a win here, with the other game ending in a tie. Robert Morris 3, Bentley 1; Robert Morris 3, Bentley 3.

Mercyhurst at Sacred Heart — With both of these teams struggling of late, this series could certainly go either way. I think Mercyhurts has been skating stronger, of the two, for most of the season, and they come away with a very close sweep. Mercyhurst 3, Sacred Heart 1; Mercyhurst 4, Sacred Heart 3.

Saturday, December 4
Colgate at Army — Army has proven it can be a tough team late in the game, but I think a bigger Colgate team will show their strength. Colgate 4, Army 2.

Good luck and thanks to both Dave and Chris.
