The American Hockey Coaches Association announced its 2010-11 RBK Hockey College Division All-American Teams on Thursday night at the NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Championship banquet at the Rochester Hotel and Plaza.
Six selections were present at the banquet with their respective teams earning their way to the NCAA semifinals. RIT had three selections, while Norwich, Middlebury and Gustavus Adolphus each had one.
With their selections this year, RIT’s Sarah Dagg and Gustavus Adolphus’ Kirstin Peterson each became three-time All-Americans to add to their impressive four-year careers.
The three East Region conference players of the year composed the East first team with national scoring leader Sophie Leclerc (Norwich), Trinity’s Kim Weiss, and Dagg rounding out the forward spots.
Leclerc was named the ECAC East player of the year and has an even 24 points and 24 assists for 48 points. She has led the country in scoring for nearly the entire season.
Weiss became the second Trinity player in as many years to be named the NESCAC player of the year after former goaltender Isabel Iwachiw won it last season. Weiss has 22 goals and nine assists for 31 points on the year.
Dagg was named the ECAC West player of the year and ranks second in the nation with 18 goals and 23 assists for 41 points on the year.
The two first-team All-ECAC West blueliners in RIT’s Traci Galbraith and Plattsburgh’s Kara Beuhler composed the first-team East defense. Galbraith ranks sixth in the country in defenseman scoring with six goals and 17 assists for 23 points, while Beuhler was right behind her with seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points.
Middlebury goalie Alexi Bloom rounded out the East first team. Bloom has been one of the key factors in leading the Panthers back to the NCAA tournament this year. She has saved her best season for last by compiling a 19-3-1 record, 1.02 goals-against average and a .950 save percentage. Bloom also leads the country with 11 shutouts, which is just two shy of the NCAA single season record set by Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Amy Statz with 13 in 2005.
Katie Stack rounded out the top-ranked and NCAA semifinals/championship host Tigers’ All-American selections by garnering a forward spot on the East second team along with Plattsburgh’s Megan DiJulio and Holy Cross’ Stacey Hochkins.
Stack ranks seventh in the country with 20 goals and 19 assists. Stack broke the RIT record for goals in a career in last Saturday’s 10-1 win over Adrian. DiJulio finished her Cardinals career with 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points. Hochkins earned her second straight All-American selection after leading the Division I Crusaders with 24 goals and 22 assists.
Amherst swept the East second team defense spots with sophomore Geneva Lloyd and senior Randi Zukas. Lloyd and Zukas were the top two scoring defenseman in the nation with Lloyd registering 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points and Zukas chipping in four goals and 25 assists for 29 points.
Plattsburgh goalie Mandy Mackrell rounded out the East second team by compiling a 14-4-3 record with a 1.19 goals-against average and .945 save percentage to go along with six shutouts.
NCHA player of the year Kristin Faber (Wisconsin-Eau Claire), MIAC player of the year Michaela Michaelson (St. Catherine), and Wisconsin-River Falls’ superb freshman Kait Mason comprised the West first-team forwards. Wisconsin-River Falls’ Lauren Conrad joined Peterson as the defense selections and Adrian freshman Emily Michelin earned the goalie spot.
Faber led the NCHA with 22 goals and 10 assists for 32 points. Michaelson had 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points while earning her second straight MIAC player of the year award. Mason racked up a West Region-leading 20 goals and 20 assists for 40 points.
Michelin backstopped Adrian to its first NCAA tournament appearance and an NCHA title with a 16-6-2 record and a 1.99 goals-against average. She also had a .924 save percentage to go along with eight shutouts.
