A bit has already been written about it, but this weekend gives the Bulldogs and their blonde dye jobs a wider audience, like the New York Times, whose writer asked about it.
“My first impression was I am not going to do that,” said coach Scott Sandelin. “They asked a couple times, but you know what, a couple of years ago they got the mohawks, so it’s kind of a team thing, which is great. I think it’s great that they all buy into that and it’s very similar to how our team is. They’ve got a strong belief in each other, and right now they’ve bought into some things and hopefully we can continue to do that.”
Sandelin did receive pressure to dye his hair — not only from the team, but from his son, as well.
“My 12-year-old did; he’s a peewee and I was a little scared because I got pressure from him, too,” he said.
Sandelin also got asked about it a second time near the end of the press conference.
“I think it’s kind of a hockey thing, you see it in junior hockey,” he said. “I think it’s great and it just kind of brings the team together. And they get a lot of questions.”
