A historic North American service academy rivalry is set to resume after a five-year hiatus.
Army and Canada’s Royal Military College are scheduled for one meeting in each of the next three seasons, with the first two at Tate Rink in West Point, N.Y.
The schools had a 75-year history before the series was put on the back burner after the 2005-06 season.
Army, which leads the series 39-29-7, will host Royal Military College on Feb. 4, 2012. Games are also set for January 2013 in West Point and 2014 in Kingston, Ontario.
“We are thrilled to be playing RMC again and for our cadets to have a chance to compete against their cadets,” Army coach Brian Riley said in a statement. “Our guys will have a chance to experience this great rivalry like other Army players and I really think they will enjoy playing in this series. The memories will last a lifetime.”
The series, formed in 1923 by then-West Point Superintendent Douglas MacArthur, opened with a 3-0 RMC victory.
“This is also great for our fans,” Riley said. “Not only do they turn out in large numbers for our regular season games but the contests against RMC have always been a full house and they can expect some great hockey.”
The game will not count toward Army’s NCAA record.
