Brown will have a new women’s coach for the first time in 21 years this fall as Digit Murphy, while not officially announced by the school, will not be back.
Brown sports information director Chris Humm did tell the Associated Press Wednesday that Murphy was “pursuing other opportunities.”
An assistant coach for two years, Murphy succeeded Steve Shea as head coach at Brown for the 1989-1990 season. Under Murphy, Brown compiled an overall record of 318-244-57, won three Ivy League championships and six ECAC regular-season or tournament championships and made four appearances in the national championship game.
In 2006-2007, Murphy broke the NCAA women’s hockey record for most Division I victories and became the third coach in women’s hockey to reach 300 victories.
