Trinity College has named Matt Greason the third head coach in the 38-year history of the program.
Greason returns to Trinity, where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, served as an assistant coach from 2007-09, and was a two-time All-NESCAC honoree in 2002 and 2003. He spent the last two years as an assistant coach for the United States National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor.
“I could not be more excited to be coming back to my alma mater as head men’s ice hockey coach,” Greason said in a statement. “It is a wonderful opportunity for me to give something back to a place that has given me so much. (Former) coaches (John) Dunham and (David) Cataruzolo have established a special tradition with a family atmosphere for Trinity men’s ice hockey and I will do my best to carry that on. The leadership which exists among the upperclassmen on this year’s team will ease the transition.”
Greason replaces Cataruzolo, who coached the Bantams for four years before moving on to Harvard as its men’s and women’s director of operations in August. Dunham, Greason’s coach at Trinity, has been serving as interim head coach since August 18.
With the NTDP, Greason coached the defense for the U-17 and U-18 squads, served as head coach at the NTDP top-40 tryout camp and was an assistant for Team USA in the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament.
