Merrimack senior Carter Madsen is stable at a New Hampshire hospital after suffering a lower leg injury Saturday night on the first shift of Merrimack’s 3-2 overtime win at UNH.
Madsen was carried off the ice on a stretcher and immediately transported to the hospital.
Warriors’ coach Mark Dennehy and head athletic trainer Allan Del Valle joined Madsen at the hospital following the game.
Madsen has spent much of the last three seasons on a line with classmates Elliott Sheen, a teammate in juniors, and roommate Ryan Flanigan.
Flanigan, who did not play Saturday, also accompanied Madsen to the hospital.
On Monday, Madsen released a statement:
“I want to thank everyone for their concern and support for me during this tough time. I have received many voicemails and texts from countless Merrimack students, faculty, staff and alums, as well as from friends and fans across the United States and Canada. While this is a very tough and frustrating time for me, your support is helping me get through this as best as I can. I am very appreciative and grateful for everyone’s involvement and am truly proud to be a Merrimack Warrior. Thanks again and I hope to return to campus as soon as I can.”
