NCAA members vote to push Division III start date back to Nov. 1

UPDATE, JAN. 20: Proposal No. 6, which sets the earliest date for Division III competition as Nov. 1 most years, was adopted by NCAA Division III members in voting Saturday at the NCAA Convention near Dallas.

ORIGINAL STORY: The NCAA is voting Saturday on legislation that would move the first day of Division III hockey competition back to Nov. 1.

On the agenda for the D-III Management Council meeting is Proposal No. 6, which seeks to set Nov. 1 as the first competition date in hockey.

If adopted, the Management Council will approve teams to play on the preceding Friday if Nov. 1 falls on a Saturday or Sunday.
