Pretty much how I saw it would go down last week. Teams that were supposed to win, well, won.
Plymouth State is trying its hardest right now to separate itself from the rest of the pack and claim sole possession of first place. The Panthers swept last week; however, both games were decided by one goal, including one overtime victory. Trying to make it interesting I guess.
Salem State also got back into the win column with a pair of one-goal victories as well. Westfield State, on the other hand, continues to roll as it tries to make a name for itself this season.
This should be a good week, with six conference games on the docket.
Let’s take a look at the picks.
Thursday, Jan. 31
Framingham State Rams (2-15-1) at Fitchburg Sate Falcons (6-10-2)
Framingham Sate has dropped two in a row, but both games were close battles. The Rams lost one in overtime to a very tough Salem State squad, and fell, 3-1, to an equally as tough Massachusetts-Dartmouth program. Fitchburg though, needs a win to regain some steam heading into the postseason. Just like the Rams, the Falcons have lost two, with one coming in overtime. I like the Falcons though, at home for the victory. Fitchburg State 4-1
Worcester State Lancers (6-11-4) at Mass.-Dartmouth Corsairs (7-7-4)
The Lancers are coming off a 3-2 loss to Salem Sate, which doesn’t shock me. Worcester State has been a strong, competitive team since snapping its six-game losing streak back in November. The Lancers are 2-1-1 in their last four games, which includes a 4-3 win over Plymouth State. Mass.-Dartmouth is looking to avenge a lopsided 7-2 loss to Stonehill. The Corsairs get back their confidence in a close one. Mass.-Dartmouth 4-2
Plymouth State Panthers (14-5-0) at Westfield State Owls (11-6-1)
Westfield State cruised past Fitchburg State last week with a 7-2 win, and has been one of the most surprising teams in the MASCAC all season. The Owls have outscored their opponents, 13-3, in their last two games. Oh, and their other win was against Salem State, who they defeated, 6-1, just a couple of nights before their Plymouth State win. The Panthers though, are 14-5-0 for a reason. They head to Westfield State, which will be pumped up for this. Got to go with the gut. Plymouth State 4-3
