Western Michigan will be without junior defensemen Garrett Haar for the first half of the upcoming season due to academic and athletic ineligibility.
“At this point, he’s not going to be playing until at least Christmas,” WMU coach Andy Murray told MLive.com. “He did not live up to Bronco hockey athletic and academic standards.”
Haar, a Washington Capitals’ prospect, played in 22 games last season, scoring three goals with six assists for nine points and a minus-3 rating. He also missed 16 games during the 2012-13 with an undisclosed upper-body injury.
It’s not known if Haar will be eligible to play in the outdoors Great Lakes Invitational on Dec. 27-28 as the tournament will be after the end of the fall semester.
