Former coach Ron Mason and three former college hockey players were among the United States Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2013 announced Thursday.
Cindy Curley (Providence, 1981-85), Bill Guerin (Boston College, 1989-91) and Doug Weight (Lake Superior State, 1989-91) joined Mason and Carolina Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos Jr. in the group.
Mason won 924 games over 36 seasons, with stops at Lake Superior State, Bowling Green and Michigan State. His win total was tops in college hockey history until last season, when Boston College’s Jerry York passed him.
Curley followed a successful stay at Providence with a long international career, recording tournament records of 11 goals, 12 assists and 23 points at the inaugural IIHF Women’s World Championship in 1990 that still stand today.
Guerin had 40 goals and 70 points in 77 games over two seasons at Boston College, then spent 18 seasons in the NHL. He won the Stanley Cup with New Jersey in 1995 and Pittsburgh in 2009.
In two seasons at Lake Superior State, Weight posted 50 goals and 94 points in 88 games. His 19-year NHL career included a Stanley Cup with Carolina in 2006.
U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame members are chosen for extraordinary contribution to hockey in the country.
The date and site of the induction ceremony has yet to be announced.
