D-I men’s poll shows Minnesota still No. 1 by just 13 voting points

Minnesota garnered 29 first-place votes in this week’s USCHO.com Division I Men’s Poll to stay at the top of the rankings.

Last weekend, the Gophers beat and tied Ohio State.

Idle Boston College earned 19 first-place nods to stay at No. 2, just 13 voting points behind Minnesota, while Union, also idle, had one first-place vote to stay third and after sweeping Colorado College, St. Cloud State tallied the last first-place vote and retains the No. 4 spot.

Wisconsin swept Penn State to stay fifth.

Ferris State and Quinnipiac tied for sixth this week. The Bulldogs moved up one with a sweep over Lake Superior State, while QU was off last weekend and stays sixth.

Idle Massachusetts-Lowell stays at No. 8, Providence was off and moves up one to No. 9, while North Dakota split with Western Michigan  and falls one to No. 10 this week.

Notre Dame beat Boston University in a first-round Hockey East playoff contest and stays at No. 11, idle Cornell jumps up one to No. 12, Michigan split with Michigan State and is down one to No. 13, idle Northeastern stays 14th and Vermont holds firm at No. 15 after defeating Massachusetts in the first round of the Hockey East playoffs.

At No. 16, Yale beat Harvard in two straight in the first round of the ECAC Hockey playoffs to stay at last week’s rank, idle Colgate is up one notch to No. 17, Minnesota State beat and tied Michigan Tech and falls one to sit 18th, Maine topped Merrimack to jump one to No. 19 and Minnesota-Duluth split with Nebraska-Omaha and drops one to No. 20 to round out this week’s rankings.

In addition, eight other teams received votes.

The USCHO.com Division I Men’s Poll consists of 50 voters, including 28 coaches from the Division I conferences and 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country.
