ECAC Hockey recently announced that Cornell goaltender Andy Iles has been named the student-athlete of the year.
A finance and Marketing major, the senior has accumulated a 3.78 grade-point average, while recently being named to the league’s second-team all-conference team.
“It is easy to see Andy Iles and what he has done at Cornell,” said Cornell coach Mike Schafer in a news release. “But what people won’t see is the time he puts into community service and preparation in being the best goaltender he can be. It is amazing to see the courses he excels in and the number of projects he is involved with.”
Iles made 80 consecutive starts in net for the Big Red, marking the fifth longest streak in NCAA Division I history and serves as one of the team captains this season. Iles has also rewritten the record books in his time at Cornell, now standing as the program’s all-time leader in career saves with 2,962.
He has made the Dean’s List six times to date while studying in the grueling demands of the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management. He is a member of the Sphinx Head Honor Society and the Red Key honor society.
Iles is a finalist for Senior CLASS Award and outside of the rink, he has been involved in a service trip with the Portal De Belen Foundation to Don Juan, Dominican Republic, and is the organizer and planner of the Cornell Hockey Teddy Bear Toss, which donates proceeds to Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes and the Franziska Racker Centers.
