Sweezey elevated from volunteer assistant to top women’s assistant at St. Michael’s

St. Michael’s has announced the hire of Meghan Sweezey as the program’s top women’s assistant coach.

Sweezey, who is also the assistant director of alumni and parent Relations at the school, served as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2013-14 season.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity to give back to the sport, school and program that played such a large role in my development as both a player and a person,” said Sweezey, a three-year Purple Knights’ captain during her playing career from 2006-10, in a news release. “I look forward to working with the women on the team and helping them to be the best they can be, both on and off the ice.”

In addition to spending last winter on the St. Michael’s staff, Sweezey previously coached girls at the high school level in her native Massachusetts.

“Meghan understands what it means to be self-motivated, as she was an elite player at St. Michael’s, and this is the next step in her coaching,” added St. Michael’s head coach Chris Donovan. “The players have gotten to know her in the last year and respect what she has to say. I’m looking forward to working with her in a different capacity than previously.”
