This past weekend in the Division III women’s ranks yielded ranked teams faring well, as well as teams on the cusp of being contenders.
Don’t expect to see the D-III rankings change much, if at all, come Monday afternoon.
The weekend’s featured matchup pitted No. 7 Wisconsin-River Falls at No. 9 Wisconsin-Stevens Point and the games did not disappoint. Friday night, Dani Sibley scored two goals as River Falls eked out a 3-2 win. Angie Hall made 21 saves in goal for River Falls, and Janna Beilke-Skoug stopped 34 for the Pointers. On Saturday, River Falls scored the first and last goals, while Wis.-Stevens Point the middle two in a 2-2 tie. Beilke-Skoug put together a 32-save outing and Hall made just a dozen saves for the Falcons.
Top-ranked Plattsburgh continued its dominating regular season with a sweep over Oswego, winning 4-0 on Saturday and 5-1 on Sunday. Kayla Meneghin notched two goals with an assist Saturday and Camille Leonard stopped all 20 shots fired her way in the first contest. Sunday, Leonard stopped 12 of 13 with the only blemish a third-period goal from Kendall Applebaum. Shannon Stewart had a goal and an assist for the Cardinals. Oswego goalies Bridget Smith and Tori Trovato combined to make 47 saves in the Lakers’ cage.
No. 2 Elmira blanked Chatham in two straight with a 5-0 win on Saturday and a 4-0 victory the following afternoon. National scoring leader Ashley Ryan posted two goals and two helpers and Kyle Nelson stopped all eight shots Saturday, while Cassidy Delainey also popped a pair of goals. Ashton Hogan scored twice and Kelcey Crawford made 12 saves Sunday as Elmira outshot Chatham 52-12.
Norwich, the third-ranked squad in the country, shut out St. Michael’s 3-0 Friday before having its game Saturday at Nichols postponed due to weather. Cadets’ goalie Loren Carrier needed to make just eight saves (she faced no shots in the second period) for the shutout. Muranda Toews chipped in two assists and Kaycie Anderson contributed a goal and an assist.
No. 4 Middlebury swept No. 10 Bowdoin with a 4-2 win Friday followed by a 5-3 win on Saturday. Emily Fluke registered a goal and two assists Friday night with Rachel Kennedy scoring both for Bowdoin. Fluke added a goal and an assist in Saturday’s win as five different players found the net for the Panthers. Beth Findley made 25 saves in goal for Bowdoin.
No. 5 Adrian erupted for a 10-1 win over Finlandia Friday night before getting a 5-0 shutout Saturday. Kelsey Kusch and Logan Taylor each recorded a five-point night (three goals, two assists) Friday night as the Bulldogs outshot the Lions 68-10. Saturday night, Jade Walsh and Brooke Gibson combined on a nine-save shutout and Kaylyn Schroka tallied twice. Shots Saturday were 53-9 in favor of Adrian.
No. 6 Gustavus Adolphus won both ends of a home-and-home with St. Mary’s, each by a single goal. Friday night, Kaitlyn Klein’s power-play goal at 15:39 of the third period proved to be the game-winner in a 3-2 win. Lindsey Hibbard made 17 saves for GAC and Tori Herrmann finished with 26 at the other end. On Saturday, Keri Pickel’s goal 75 seconds into the second period was all the Gusties needed in a 1-0 shutout. Hibbard stopped 19 and Marah Shields turned aside 40 for the Cardinals.
No. 8 Amherst sat idle last weekend, but plays Tuesday at home against Salve Regina and then this coming weekend at home for a pair with Connecticut College.
Speaking of Connecticut College, the Camels earned a hard-fought split with Wesleyan over the weekend, capped off by a thrilling 3-2 overtime win Saturday. Cassie Hunter scored the tying goal with the extra attacked at 17:49 of the third period and then won it at 4:52 of the extra session. Friday night, Jordan Schildhaus scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win for Wesleyan. Corinne Rivard stopped 17 shots for the goose egg and Kelsie Fralick 16 at the other end for Connecticut College.
Manhattanville played two OT games, losing 4-3 to Plymouth State on Friday night and then tying New England College 1-1 on Saturday.
Amber Schaack’s goal 12:18 into the third period snapped a 1-1 tie and Concordia (Minn.) edged Augsburg 2-1 on Saturday. The two teams skated to a 2-2 tie Friday night.
Abby Sawyer’s power-play goal with 1:49 left in regulation gave St. Scholastica a 3-2 win over Concordia (Wis.) on Friday night. A 2-2 tie went down Saturday.
Cortland goalie Kelly Farinella kicked out all 20 shots she faced in Sunday’s 2-0 shutout over Neumann.
