Arlan and I tied last week, thanks to Cornell coming back to beat Quinnipiac in overtime. We both went 18-8-2 (.678) to move to 259-99-36 (703).
Friday, Feb. 13
Princeton at Clarkson
Candace: Princeton has proven a dangerous team of late, but I have to think home ice matters. Clarkson 3-1
Arlan: Sometimes, the score alone is so profound that nothing more need be said. This is not one of those times. Clarkson 2-1
Dartmouth at Colgate
Candace: Dartmouth has looked very vulnerable of late, and Colgate is playing better, but I’m sticking with the Big Green. Dartmouth 2-1
Arlan: Colgate defeated the Big Green three weeks ago, but prior to that, it hadn’t done so in five years. Dartmouth 3-2
Harvard at Cornell
Candace: Are the Crimson due for a letdown after the emotional win over Boston College in the Beanpot? This probably goes to OT. Harvard 3-2
Arlan: Does the Beanpot bring complacency or a zest for more hardware? Harvard 4-3
Quinnipiac at St. Lawrence
Candace: If this was two weeks ago, I’d probably pick differently. Quinnipiac 2-1
Arlan: My upset special — or maybe it’s not that special. St. Lawrence 2-1
Friday-Saturday, Feb. 13-14
Penn State at Mercyhurst
Candace: Penn State hasn’t been swept in conference this season, but there is no percentage in picking against the Lakers on home ice. Mercyhurst 2-1, 4-1
Arlan: I’ll admit it; over the years, Mercyhurst has conditioned me to the extent that I’m willing to buy into a “Turned a Corner” theory based on a sweep of a last-place team. Mercyhurst 3-1, 3-2
RIT at Robert Morris
Candace: Arlan seems to have a better handle on Robert Morris games than me. Robert Morris 3-2, RIT 2-1
Arlan: I’m fairly confident that this will be a split. As for the order, that’s based mainly on lunar tables. Robert Morris 2-1, RIT 1-0
Lindenwood at Syracuse
Candace: I should have picked the Orange last week. Syracuse 2-1, 2-1
Arlan: Syracuse is a biblical name that means, “That draws violently.” So we’re going to have a violent tie? Or two? Wait, it’s a boy’s name. Yeah, I’m stalling. Syracuse 3-2, 2-1
Maine at Boston College
Candace: I think the Black Bears are going to bear the brunt of an Eagles team angry at its first loss. Boston College 6-1, 8-1
Arlan: BC is anxious to get back on the ice. Boston College 4-0, 7-1
New Hampshire at Vermont
Candace: Will Vermont finally start to do as well in conference as it has out of conference? Vermont 2-1, 3-1
Arlan: The Wildcats won the first meeting handily, back when they couldn’t defeat anyone else, one of two wins in a stretch of 13 losses. Vermont 2-1, 4-3
Wisconsin at Ohio State
Candace: The Badgers are solidly the second-best team in the WCHA. I don’t think they will let the Buckeyes surprise them. Wisconsin 3-1, 4-1
Arlan: The Buckeyes are still looking for their first goal versus the Badgers this season; they should get at least one on Senior Day. Wisconsin 3-0, 2-1
North Dakota at St. Cloud State
Candace: North Dakota moves into third place in the WCHA after this weekend. North Dakota 4-1, 4-0
Arlan: UND has about 1,000 more reasons to be motivated for this series than do the Huskies. North Dakota 5-0, 3-2
Minnesota-Duluth at Minnesota
Candace: The Bulldogs got a tie the last time these two played, but I think the Gophers will rebound from the North Dakota loss. Minnesota 3-1, 3-2
Arlan: This rivalry will continue once Shannon Miller is gone from UMD, but I doubt it will ever be quite the same. Minnesota 2-1, 4-2
Saturday, Feb. 14
Quinnipiac at Clarkson
Candace: I’m going with Arlan’s first instinct. Quinnipiac 2-1
Arlan: My first instinct is to pick Quinnipiac. Think long, think wrong. Clarkson 1-0
Dartmouth at Cornell
Candace: The Big Red get a cortical win. Cornell 4-1
Arlan: It shouldn’t be as close as the first meeting. Cornell 5-2
Princeton at St. Lawrence
Candace: The Saints get back in the win column. St. Lawrence 2-1
Arlan: What I like about the ECAC is I don’t have to worry about trying to pick splits. St. Lawrence 3-2
Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 14-15
Boston University vs. Providence (home-and-home)
Candace: Which Terriers team shows up? Boston University 3-2, 4-1
Arlan: Assuming that the Terriers realize that they really, really need these games. Boston University 4-2, 6-2
Northeastern at Connecticut
Candace: Even though Northeastern hasn’t beaten the top teams, the Huskies have looked good against them, so I’m picking Northeastern. Northeastern 2-1, 4-2
Arlan: A vote for Senior Day. Northeastern 4-2, Connecticut 2-1
Monday, Feb. 16
Minnesota State at St. Cloud
Candace: Home ice equals a win. St. Cloud State 2-1
Arlan: The Huskies have yet to win in 2015, so they’re due. St. Cloud State 2-1
