Former Quinnipiac women’s coach Seeley sues school for wrongful termination

Rick Seeley, fired by Quinnipiac in April after seven seasons as women’s coach amid allegations of verbal and physical abuse of players, filed suit Tuesday against the university for wrongful termination, according to the New Haven Register.

The lawsuit claims Quinnipiac “failed to properly investigate claims of abuse and condemned him without substantiation.”

In April, just three weeks after leading Quinnipiac to its first NCAA tournament appearance, a school-issued press release announced that Seeley resigned his position.

Quinnipiac named Cassandra Turner its interim head coach on April 17.

Seeley’s suit also names David Bills, whose daughter, Courtney, played for Seeley at Clarkson during the 2003-04 season, claiming Bills “presented untrue and defamatory statements that were published by Q30 Television, Quinnipiac’s official student news station.”

Seeley is seeking in excess of $15,000 in damages.

Quinnipiac has not commented publicly on the matter.
