Trio of NCAA standouts named to Sweden’s preliminary World Junior roster

A trio of current NCAA players have been selected to Sweden’s preliminary IIHF World Junior Championship roster

Defenseman William Lagesson (Massachusetts) and forwards Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson (Boston University) and Fredrik Olofsson (Nebraska-Omaha) are the three Swedish NCAA standouts (all freshmen) eligible for the World Junior team.

Lagesson has two goals and four assists for six points in 17 games this season for the Minutemen and was drafted by Edmonton in the fourth round (91st overall) in the 2014 NHL draft.

Forsbacka Karlsson is a 2015 second-round pick (45th overall) of the Boston Bruins and so far in 2015-16, has compiled four goals among 14 points for the Terriers.

With the Mavericks, Olofsson, has posted six goals and six assists for 12 points covering 16 games. He was drafted by Chicago in the fourth round (98th overall) in 2014.

The 2016 World Junior event kicks off Dec. 26 in Finland.
