Omaha sophomore Peterson leaves team, still ‘in good academic standing’

Nebraska-Omaha announced Monday that sophomore forward Avery Peterson has decided to leave the team.

“Avery is leaving the team for personal reasons,” said Mavericks coach Dean Blais in a statement. “He has finished his classwork for the semester and will leave UNO in good academic standing.”

Peterson appeared in 14 games for UNO this season, registering one assist and six penalty minutes.

As a freshman, Peterson played in all 39 games and tied for fifth in team scoring with 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points. He also ranked third among UNO’s freshmen in points and led all rookies in goals last season.
