Lone Star Brahmas forward Oskar Andren has committed to play for Boston University and will enroll immediately at BU and is eligible to play for the Terriers in January.
According to NAHL.com, this is the first time since the 2008-09 season that an NAHL player has committed to Boston University.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” said Andren in a news release. “Going to Boston University to play Division I hockey is something I’ve been dreaming of for a long, long time. To be able to get to go midseason, it’s just a great opportunity for me. My teammates are obviously very happy for me because it’s not a usual thing that someone from the NAHL goes to Boston University, but they have been so happy for me. At the same time, I cannot thank my teammates enough because without them, I wouldn’t be where I am right now.”
The 20-year-old Andren is second in Brahmas team scoring with 22 points on eight goals and 14 assists.
Lone Star’s news release states that BU has an “open roster spot due to an injury and they believe Andren can come in and play immediately.”
According to a BU spokesperson, senior forward Ahti Oksanen has an upper-body injury, but was out of his sling by the time he left to go home to Finland (last) Wednesday. He will be re-evaluated when he returns at the end of the month.
The Terriers also have an open roster spot with sophomore forward A.J. Greer leaving school for the QMJHL.
