Wisconsin-Superior has announced that men’s head coach Dan Stauber will be stepping down from his coaching position, effective immediately.
Stauber just completed his 16th eason as the head coach of the Yellowjackets, going 258-148-58 in that run.
“It’s been a privilege working with such outstanding student-athletes on the men’s hockey team,” said Stauber in a statement. “I’m proud of their success on and off the ice. I would like to thank the players, the fans, and all those who supported me and this program over the past 16 years.”
“I would like to thank Dan for his commitment to our university and the Yellowjacket men’s hockey program over the past sixteen years,” added chancellor Renee Wachter. “Under his leadership, the men’s hockey program has experienced the success of a national championship and has consistently carried out the proud traditions of UW-Superior Hockey. The men’s hockey program is clearly an important program to our campus and our entire community. We will immediately begin searching for a new coach who will continue that long-standing tradition of excellence on and off the ice, and lead an exciting new era of Yellowjacket Hockey.”
Stauber, a Superior alumnus (1984-88), became the all-time wins leader by a hockey coach in school history during the 2014-2015 season and also led the Yellowjackets to the 2002 Division III national championship.
UW-Superior will immediately begin an expedited search for a new head coach.
