[scg_html_wjc2017]The fourth, a 3-1 victory over rival Canada in Toronto on Saturday, clinched the top spot in Group B and a quarterfinal matchup Monday against Switzerland, the fourth-place team from Group A.
Boston University’s Jordan Greenway scored and added two assists, and Boston College goaltender Joseph Woll made 25 saves for the U.S.
“This was a tough road game to play and I’m proud of every one of these guys for the effort they gave to get the win,” U.S. coach Bob Motzko said. “We’ve been happy with our team for a while now, but tonight we overcame adversity and played with a lot of fire. We haven’t won anything yet, though. We’ll enjoy this tonight, but starting tomorrow it’s time to turn our attention to the playoff round.”
Boston College’s Colin White and Greenway scored power-play goals in the first period to give the U.S. a 2-0 lead.
After penalties to U.S. captain Luke Kunin of Wisconsin (a major and game misconduct) and Charlie McAvoy of Boston University, Canada pulled within one with a five-on-three goal by Thomas Chabot.
But Jeremy Bracco restored the Americans’ two-goal lead later in the second period.
