The Big Red are currently the ECAC’s hottest team as they are now 9-1 in their past ten games after their 5-1 win over Princeton and 2-1 win over Quinnipiac over the weekend.
They have also have won their past five conference games. With a 6-2-1 record inside the ECAC, they currently sit sixth in the conference standings. The good news for them, they have a couple of games in hand over the rest of the conference. If they continue on their current pace it won’t be too long before they are in the top four in the standings.
This upcoming weekend they start a four game home stand as they welcome the North County schools in Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Harvard and Dartmouth come to town the following weekend.
Depends how you look at it they have been spreading the scoring out this season. That could be a good thing as they aren’t relying on just one or two players to find the back of the net. You could also look at it as as negative in the sense it will be tough to keep up winning low scoring games. They are in the middle of the pack in team scoring with 2.94 goals per game which is 29th in the nation.
Right now it’s working for them and coach Mike Schafer has plenty experience so I don’t expect him to change much if they continue to win.
Who saw Harvard getting swept this weekend?
Ted Donato is probably steaming that they left New York without bring back any points back to Cambridge. The loss to RPI could comeback to haunt them when it comes to playoff seeding. It was a game they were suppose to win against an Engineers team that has struggled this season.
Give credit to RPI for getting up for the game with the news before the game the team suspended goaltender Cam Hackett. Not sure what Seth Appert said to the guys heading into the game, but whatever he said worked Friday night.
Harvard played better Saturday night but lost 2-1 against Union. That game could have gone either way as two of the top teams in the conference. Although without any points this weekend the Crimson are now six points behind the Dutchmen in the standings.
Saints continue to rack up the points
St. Lawrence continue climb up the standings as they grabbed three out of four in their trip to Southern New England this weekend. They defeated Brown 2-1 on Friday before tying Yale 2-2 as they dug themselves out of a 2-0 hole.
With the 8-1-3 record in the ECAC, they are just two points behind Union for top spot in the conference.
The schedule the rest of the way using this past week’s USCHO poll, they have face a top 20 opponent at least once a week in four of the remaining six weeks in the regular season.
