If you were looking for an upset or two this weekend, you were disappointed as all four higher seeds advanced.
Colgate was within a second of being the only lower seed to move on Saturday, but Eric Robinson’s goal with less than a second left sent Princeton into overtime. Max Véronneau forced a Game 3 in the overtime session. Princeton continued its season with a 2-1 victory Sunday night.
Quinnipiac had no issues with Brown as Tanner McMaster had a five-point weekend for the Bobcats.
Troy Josephs had a field day against Rensselaer as he had four goals and three assists on the weekend for Clarkson. Sheldon Rempal had a pair of goals in Friday’s contest for the Golden Knights.
Mike Doherty made his last games at Ingalls Rink count as the senior forward had three goals in the two wins for Yale. He now has 13 points on the season.
Season comes to an end for Dartmouth, Colgate, Brown and RPI
There’s only eight teams left in the ECAC as Dartmouth, Colgate, Brown and RPI were eliminated this weekend. What do these teams have to look forward to next year?
Brown: The Bears finished 12th this season but right now their top three leading scorers are all juniors in Sam Lafferty (35 points), Charlie Corcoran (28 points) and Max Willman (26 points). Lafferty and Willman are both NHL draft picks — Laffterty by Pittsburgh and Willman by Buffalo — so it’s a possibility they can leave. If they don’t, the Bears have some scoring depth coming back.
RPI: The defense should be better for the Engineers as Jared Wilson and Mike Prapavessis will be seniors next year. They both were able to put up points from the point this year as Wilson had 17 and Prapavessis had 16. Will Reilly came in as a freshman and had 15 points.
Colgate: The goaltending should as solid as it has been the past four years with Charlie Finn. Colton Point came in with a strong pedigree after leading the Carleton Place Canadians of the Central Canadian Hockey League with a 23-6-1 record and a 2.15 GAA and a .915 save percentage. He was drafted in the fifth round by Dallas last summer. The 10 games of action he got this year will help him going into next year.
Dartmouth: A big freshman class got a lot of experience this season and the Big Green had moderate success when most people thought the team would be in the basement this year. Will Graber (19 points) and Cam Strong each made an immediate impact. The only players who didn’t see 10 or more games were the two goalies.
Shortridge likes to face Brown
Quinnipiac freshman goaltender Andrew Shortridge continued his strong play against the Brown Bears, who got only two goals past him in the opening round.
He also allowed one goal against Brown on Feb. 25 and blanked the Bears on Feb. 3. He seems like he’s in a rhythm right now — he’s started the past five games, and the Bobcats have won them all.
He was named rookie of the week last week and he’s in good position to pick up another award this week.
