Three things we learned: Mavericks take down BU

1. Minnesota State not only swept No. 2 Boston University, it did it in impressive fashion with 6-3 and 3-0 victories. The Mavericks scored nine goals against one of the most-heralded defensive units in college hockey. It was a big win for the WCHA and it would really be a boost for the Mavericks in a potential at-large bid situation later in the season.

2. Northern Michigan is off to a nice start in the WCHA with a sweep against Ferris State. Coaches in the WCHA often talk about defensive-minded teams that can shut games down, and that’s what NMU did as they held onto late leads in each game.

3. Bemidji States and Bowling Green helped raise the non-conference profile by picking up wins against Minnesota-Duluth and Michigan State. The Beavers technically got a win and a tie, but they left the weekend feeling like it was a sweep after winning the shootout 1-0 against their in-state foe.
