Matthew and I picked two series differently, but again ended the weekend tied, both of us going a respectable 9-4-3 (.656). On the year, I am 22-13-6 (.609) while Matthew is 20-15-6 (.560).
Thursday-Friday, Oct. 26-27
Omaha at No. 8 Notre Dame
Candace: Neither team was sharp last weekend. I feel like I could take a flyer on this one. I’m going to call a Notre Dame sweep and hope I get one game right if it’s a split. Notre Dame 3-2, 3-2
Matthew: Both teams are coming off of weekends that they feel could have gone better. I’m calling for a split here, but it’s tough to tell who will win which night. Omaha 4-2, Notre Dame 3-2
Friday, Oct. 27
No. 1 Denver at No. 6 Boston University
Candace: Watch this be another Friday tie. Denver 3-2
Matthew: BU has one win from its first four home games of the year, and Denver did well two weeks ago at Notre Dame, so they’re already battle-tested in top-10 road games. Give me the Pioneers in this one. Denver 4-2
Friday-Saturday, Oct. 27-28
No. 4 North Dakota at Colorado College
Candace: CC won its lone home game of the year last year against North Dakota. Probably CC will get a win again, but I keep expecting North Dakota to finally get traction. North Dakota 3-2, 3-1
Matthew: Maybe going out on a limb here, but I wouldn’t be stunned to see CC steal one here. Even if the Tigers split, 5-3 after eight games would look good given the preseason expectations upon them. Colorado College 3-2, North Dakota 4-1
No. 10 Minnesota Duluth at Maine
Candace: Given how many goals Maine scored last weekend against Miami, and that Duluth’s defense has been porous, a split wouldn’t surprise me, but I’m going with the league homer pick. Minnesota Duluth 4-3, 5-4
Matthew: UMD’s offense has been very good so far, but the Bulldogs are still working to prove themselves at their own end of the ice. I think they’ll make inroads toward that this weekend. Minnesota Duluth 3-1, 3-1
Connecticut at Miami
Candace: Eh, I’m picking the RedHawks to sweep a Hockey East team again, even though it bit me in the butt last weekend. Miami 4-2, 3-2
Matthew: The RedHawks scored 10 goals last weekend at Maine, but leaked 11. I don’t think that will be as much of a problem against UConn, but I don’t know that Miami sweeps. Connecticut 4-3, Miami 5-2
Saturday, Oct. 28
No. 1 Denver at No. 19 Boston College
Candace: I like Denver to come away with a key PairWise sweep. Denver 4-2
Matthew: Denver takes momentum from Friday into Saturday against BC. Denver 3-1
