No. 1 Wisconsin vs. No. 6 Minnesota
Sophia Shaver scored :33 seconds into the game on Saturday and the two teams traded goals. It was Presley Norby’s goal with just more than five minutes to play in the third period that gave the Badgers the 3-2 win. On Sunday, Alexis Mauermann and Sam Cogan connected to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead in the second. Grace Zumwinkle scored her second of the weekend less than two minutes later on a power play. Neither team could break the tie, and it took overtime for the Badgers to earn their first road sweep of the Gophers in a decade. Baylee Wellhausen scored the game-winner 1:32 into the extra period on a feed from Abby Roque that rolled over Minnesota goalie Sidney Peters’ shoulder and snuck in the net.
No. 5 Colgate vs. No. 2 Clarkson
Five of the goals in this one were scored on the power play. Loren Gabel scored twice for the Golden Knights, but Colgate’s Malia Schneider tied the game 3-3 in the third period and Megan Sullivan scored in overtime to give the Raiders a 4-3 win on Friday.
No. 9 Cornell at No. 2 Clarkson
Loren Gabel had two goals and an assist, and Elizabeth Giguere had three assists in Clarkson’s dominant 6-0 win Saturday.
No. 3 Boston College vs. Boston University
A pair of goals from freshman Daryl Watts helped BC jump out to a 3-0 lead. BU scored twice in the final three minutes, but ran out of time as the Eagles won 4-3 on Friday. Rebecca Leslie had two goals for Boston University.
Maine at No. 3 Boston College
This one was all BC. They scored six unanswered goals in the first 25 minutes of the game en route to a 7-2 win on Sunday. Watts continued her dominance with two goals and two assists. Caitrin Lonergan added a goal and two assists. Lydia Murray and Catherine Tufts scored for the Black Bears.
No. 9 Cornell vs. No. 7 St. Lawrence
Cornell opened its season on a high note as Jaime Bourbonnais had a goal and an assist and Kristin O’Neill had two assists to lead the Big Red to a 3-1 win on Friday.
No. 5 Colgate vs No. 7 St. Lawrence
St. Lawrence salvaged the weekend thanks to Amanda Butterfield’s goal and assist to lead the Saints in a 3-1 win over Colgate on Saturday.
Providence vs. No. 7 Northeastern
At home on Saturday, Christina Putigna and Maureen Murphy gave Providence a 2-0 lead in the second period, and Northeastern could not recover as the Lady Friars won 2-1. At Northeastern on Sunday, the Lady Friars took a 4-1 lead into the third period thanks to goals from Murphy, Chloe Gonsalves, Brooke Boquist, and Putigna. Northeastern rallied in the final frame with two quick goals from Kasidy Anderson, but Boquist potted the game-winner with just less than six minutes to go and Madison Sansone’s empty-netter solidified the 6-4 win for Providence. Before this weekend’s sweep, Northeastern had won the previous 10 meetings between the two teams, dating back to Nov. 15, 2014.
No. 10 Robert Morris vs. Penn State
Sarah Lecavalier and Amber Rennie gave Robert Morris a 2-0 lead in the second period, but Penn State scored the next three thanks to Kelsey Crow, Natalie Heising, and Meike Meilleur. Kirsten Welsh scored with less than two minutes to go to earn the tie for the Colonials. On Sunday, Christi Vetter and Brooke Madsen gave Penn State a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame, but Welsh was once again the third-period hero for the Colonials as the teams tied 2-2.
Dartmouth vs Quinnipiac
The Big Green earned their first win over Quinnipiac since January 2013, and Dartmouth goalie Christine Honor set program and NCAA records, posting 61 saves in the shutout. It was her first career shutout.
