Weekend picks: Nov. 3

After multiple tied weeks, Matthew gained a game back on me thanks to picking Colorado College to beat North Dakota. I still lead by a game in the season. Both Matthew and I were pretty stellar last week; maybe I should have bet while I was in Vegas last weekend. I went 8-2 (.800), while Matthew went 9-1 (.900). On the year, I am 30-15-6 (.647), while Matthew is 29-16-6 (.627).

Friday-Saturday, November 3-4

Colorado College at Miami
Candace: Picking CC series and Miami series is giving me heartburn so far this year, so why not a double dose? Miami 3-2, Colorado College 4-3
Matthew: Miami may have turned a corner last weekend against UConn, but CC had a good first month of the season. I’m not confident enough to pick a sweep either way here. Miami 3-2, Colorado College 3-2

No. 8 Minnesota Duluth at No. 2 St. Cloud State
Candace: Excepting the one game against Bemidji, Hunter Shepard is off to a solid start in net. He’ll need to be exceptional against one of the best offenses in the country. I could see Minnesota Duluth getting a split, but for now I’ll go with St. Cloud to sweep. St. Cloud State 3-2, 4-2
Matthew: Hunter Shepard was terrific for Duluth last weekend at Maine, and I imagine he’ll keep that going here, but I’m going to go out on a slight limb and pick a Huskies sweep. St. Cloud State 3-2, 3-2

No. 1 Denver at Western Michigan
Candace: Sooner or later, Denver will establish itself on Friday nights. This weekend is as good as any. Denver 3-2, 4-2
Matthew: DU hasn’t been as good on Fridays as it has on Saturdays, and I think that continues here against a Western team that’s strong at home. Split. Western Michigan 3-2, Denver 4-1

No. 4 North Dakota at No. 7 Wisconsin
Candace: Picking North Dakota to sweep hasn’t worked out well for me so far this season. Even though I think Wisconsin is drastically overrated at seventh, I can say the same about North Dakota at fourth. I want to pick a sweep, but I’ll call a split. Wisconsin 3-2, North Dakota 3-2
Matthew: I want to take the league homer pick, but it’s tough to see anything other than a split here. Wisconsin 3-1, North Dakota 4-2
