It’s officially December, which means it’s really not early in the season anymore. We’re in the thick of things now, and teams are starting to define themselves in relation to others.
With four conference series this weekend, which programs will get some separation in the standings?
Here’s what we think:
Anchorage at Ferris State
Sean: Ferris returns home after taking a day off last weekend in Alabama (terrible pun intended). I think they wake up and get the job done with a sweep. Bulldogs 3-1, 4-2
Jack: The Seawolves had a week to rest up during Thanksgiving. I think they’ll snatch one here. Seawolves 3-2, Bulldogs 5-2
Alaska at Lake Superior State
Sean: Lakers are well rested after a one-game exhibition last weekend against the US Development program. Their offense should start clicking against. Lakers 4-1, 5-2
Jack: I second that. Don’t look now, but the Lakers’ JT Henke currently leads the league with 17 points. I think he’ll tack on a couple more this weekend. Lakers 3-1, 4-2
Alabama Huntsville at Northern Michigan
Sean: I think Hunstville is playing better than their record, but it’s also never an easy trip NMU. Chargers 3-2, Wildcats 2-1
Jack: You’re right. The Chargers only have five wins, but three of those were in the past month — it helps to play at home, no? I think they’ll grab one from the Wildcats. Wildcats 3-1, Chargers 2-1
Bemidji State at Bowling Green
Sean: Big, big weekend for the Falcons and a chance to move to the top of the WCHA standings with Minnesota State idle. This one is going to be a tight battle. Falcons 3-2, Beavers 2-1 (overtime)
Jack: A rematch of last year’s WCHA semifinals. The Beavers probably want some revenge. I think they’ll get one. Beavers 4-3, Falcons 2-1
