No. 1 Wisconsin vs St. Cloud State
Maddie Rowe had her first-ever two-goal college game, while Abby Roque and Presley Norby added goals for the Badgers as they won, 4-0. St. Cloud goalie Janine Alder had a season-high 53 saves in the loss. On Saturday, Alexis Mauermann, Claudia Kepler, and Maddie Rolfes scored for Wisconsin in their 3-2 win. Dana Rasmussen scored for St. Cloud State in the first and Hallie Theodosopoulos closed the gap late in the game, but it was not enough for the Huskies to upset the Badgers.
No. 8 St. Lawrence at No. 2 Colgate
St. Lawrence looked to have a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission thanks to goals from Hannah Miller and Skylar Podvey, but Colgate’s Annika Zalewski scored with four seconds left in the period to make it 2-1 Saints after one. That held until midway through the second period, and from there it was all Raiders. Breanne Wilson-Bennett, Jessie Eldridge, Olivia Zafuto, and Malia Schneider scored for Colgate to earn the 5-2 win.
No. 3 Clarkson at No. 2 Colgate
This game was tied 1-1 after the first thanks to goals by Clarkson’s Loren Gabel and Colgate’s Olivia Zafuto. Elizabeth Giguère put the Golden Knights up 2-1 just 1:23 into the second, but Megan Sullivan responded for the Raiders two minutes later. Rhyen McGill then scored for Clarkson 43 seconds later, and Amanda Titus scored the game-winner late in the third. Breanne Wilson-Bennet closed the gap with a power-play goal early in the third to make it 4-3 Clarkson, but Gabel scored with six seconds left in the game to ice the victory.
No. 3 Clarkson at No. 6 Cornell
Madlynne Mills put the Big Red on the board first before Loren Gabel and Ella Shelton gave Clarkson the 2-1 lead heading into the first-period break. Kristin O’Neill responded for Cornell to tie the game on a power play midway through the second before Clarkson took the lead again with a goal from Michaela Pejzlová. Cornell evened it up again just more than a minute later with a goal from Willow Slobodzian, and the 3-3 score would hold through the final frame. Gabel ended it just 22 seconds into overtime with a laser from distance to beat Marlene Boissonault and earn the 4-3 win for the Golden Knights.
No. 10 Providence at No. 3 Boston College
Friday’s game was close for the first two periods — Daryl Watts’ goal at 14:19 of the second was the only tally — but then the Eagles blew it wide open. Ryan Little scored twice, and Serena Sommerfield and Makenna Newkirk each added a goal to earn Boston College the 5-0 win. With the win, Katie Burt tied the all-time NCAA wins record held by Minnesota’s Noora Räty. On Saturday, the two teams were scoreless in the first. Caitrin Lonergan scored on a power play, and Daryl Watts added a short-handed tally to give BC a 2-0 lead at the end of the second. However, Providence responded with their own shorty 17 seconds into the final period from Christina Putigna and a power-play goal midway through the third from Chloe Gonsalves. It was Watts with her nation’s-best 34th goal that won it, 3-2, for Boston College.
No. 8 St. Lawrence at No. 6 Cornell
Madlynne Mills scored twice and added an assist to lead Cornell to a 4-1 win. Kristin O’Neill added a goal and an assist in the win. Rachael Smith was the goal scorer for St. Lawrence.
Minnesota State at No. 7 Minnesota
The Gophers’ first-period struggles continued as Mankato took at 1-0 lead into the first break thanks to a goal from Tristen Truax. Minnesota has just two first-period goals in six games in 2018. The Gophers responded with three unanswered goals in the second from Sydney Baldwin, Grace Zumwinkle, and Emily Brown. Truax scored midway through the third to cut the Minnesota lead to 3-2, but Taylor Wente’s empty-net goal secured the win for the Gophers. On Saturday, Cara Piazza scored late in the second and Alex Woken scored late in the third to lead Minnesota to a 2-0 win and a weekend sweep.
No. 9 Maine at Connecticut
Natalie Snodgrass’ first-period goal was the only scoring for most of the match until Maine’s Michelle Weis tied it up at one and forced overtime with just 1:05 left in the game. Briana Colangelo won it in the extra frame for Connecticut, which took the 2-1 win. on Saturday, Connecticut got the only goal it would need from Morgan Wabick 1:52 into the game, and Snodgrass gave the Huskies a cushion with goal at 16:10 of the first en route to a 4-0 win. Leah Lum scored one in the second and one in the third.
