Yale at No. 2 Clarkson
Junior Loren Gabel scored the fastest hat trick in Clarkson University Women’s Hockey history, notching six total points on three goals and three assists in the Golden Knight’s 10-1 win over Yale on Friday. Gabel also set new program records for goals in a season and points in a season. Ella Shelton also had two goals for Clarkson. Grace Wickens was the goal-scorer for Yale. Emily Monaghan opened the scoring on Saturday for Yale, but it was all Clarkson from there. Rhyen McGill tallied her own hat trick to lead the Golden Knights to a 4-1 win on Saturday, and they advanced to the ECAC semifinal.
Vermont at No. 3 Boston College
Caitrin Lonergan and Makenna Newkirk each had a goal and an assist as Boston College took a 3-1 win in game one. Daryl Watts scored her 41st goal of the season. Alyssa Gorecki was the goal-scorer for Vermont. On Saturday, BC secured a spot in the semifinals thanks to two goals and an assist from Newkirk en route to a 6-1 win. Toni Ann Miano added a goal and two assists for the Eagles.
Harvard at No. 4 Colgate
Colgate took a 3-0 lead into the first period break in game one, but that was far from the end of the story. Becca Gilmore and Chelsea Ziadie cut the lead to 4-2 by the end of the second, but Colgate seemed to have an answer for each and every Crimson goal. Shea Labbe and Megan Sullivan each had two goals and an assist for Colgate, and Gilmore led Harvard with two goals and an assist. The Raiders took game one 6-4. Jess Eldridge earned her 100th career point in the game. On Saturday, Eldridge led the Raiders with three goals, and Sullivan had three assists as they advanced to just their program’s third-ever ECAC semifinals with a 6-1 win over Harvard.
Princeton at No. 5 Cornell
In game one, all the scoring happened within the final two minutes of the second period. Madlynne Mills put Cornell up with a short-handed goal. Karlie Lund tied it up for Princeton 30 seconds later, but Brianna Veerman and Cornell got the last of it with a goal 15 seconds before the horn to earn the Big Red a 2-1 victory. In game two, the scoring came in bunches. Cornell had a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Devin Facchinato and Kendra Nealey, but Princeton cut the lead in half with just a single second left on the clock in the first thanks to a goal by Stephanie Sucharda. Sarah Veerbeck and Carly Bullock put the Tigers ahead 3-2, but Cornell responded. Diana Buckley and Lenka Serdar put the Big Red up 4-3 after two periods. Sharon Frankel scored an unassisted goal late in the third to force overtime, and Annie MacDonald earned the 5-4 win for Princeton to force game three. Cornell proved why they’re the no. 5 team in the country, winning the final game in easy fashion, 4-0, thanks to goals from Mills, Sarah Knee, Veerman, and Buckley.
Minnesota State at No. 6 Ohio State
Maddy Field tallied her first career hat trick to help lead the Buckeyes in a 6-0 over Minnesota State in game one. Charly Dahlquist had a goal and two assists, and Jincy Dunne added three assists in the win. Tatum Skaggs had two goals, and Field added two more to her already impressive weekend in the Buckeyes’ 5-2 win in game two. OSU earned their first trip to the Final Faceoff in five years. Demi Gardner and Jordan McLaughlin were the goal-scorers for MSU.
St. Cloud State at No. 7 Minnesota
Sophie Skarzynski scored twice, and Lindsay Agnew had a goal and an assist as the Gophers beat St. Cloud State, 5-1, in game one. Emily Brown, Patti Marshall, Nicole Schammel, and Grace Zumwinkle scored for Minnesota on Saturday in the Gophers’ 4-1 win. They earned a berth into the WCHA Final Faceoff with the sweep.
Quinnipiac at No. 8 St. Lawrence
In game one, Skylar Podvey and Justine Reyes had St. Lawrence up 2-0 heading into the third period. Melissa Samoskevich cut the lead for Quinnipiac, but Kayla Nielsen responded to give St. Lawrence the 3-1 win. In game two, Shannon Cherpak put the Bobcats on the board first, but Hannah Miller and Reyes responded to earn the 2-1 win and berth into the ECAC semifinals for St. Lawrence.
No. 9 Robert Morris and Syracuse
The Colonials clinched their second-straight CHA regular-season title with a weekend sweep of Syracuse. On Friday, Jessica Gazzol had a goal and two assists, and Lexi Templeman had two goals to lead RMU to a 5-0 win. On Saturday, Brittany Howard and Jaycee Gebhard each had a goal and an assist to lead Robert Morris to a 4-0 win.
Connecticut at No. 10 Providence
In game one, Avery Fransoo, Hayley Lunny, Christina Putigna, and Blair Parent each scored to lead Providence to a 4-0 win. The tables turned in game two, as Connecticut earned a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Theresa Knutson, Justine Fredette, and Kayla Mee. The third game was scoreless for 50 minutes before Parent put Providence on the board, but Natalie Snodgrass responded for Connecticut just 11 seconds later to tie the game, and it would be Snodgrass again on a power play just a few minutes before the final horn to give Connecticut the upset win and berth into the Hockey East semifinals.
