Retiring New Hampshire coach Dick Umile will be honored as the 2018 recipient of the Parker/York Award, given by the New England Hockey Writers Association.
The award, given annually for outstanding contributions to New England collegiate hockey, will be presented at the association’s banquet on April 11 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass.
Umile, who just concluded his historic 28-year career as the head coach at UNH, guided the Wildcats to 596 victories, two national championship games, four Frozen Fours, 18 NCAA tournament appearances, eight Hockey East regular-season championships and two Hockey East tournament titles.
He was tabbed the Spencer Penrose Award winner as National Coach of the Year in 1999, while was named the Hockey East Coach of the Year six times and the New England Coach of the Year four times.
Umile, who graduated from UNH in 1972, posted 60 goals and 84 assists for 144 points as a player.
