The New York Rangers announced Thursday that the team has agreed to terms with Harvard junior defenseman Adam Fox on an entry-level contract.
He’ll forgo his senior season at Harvard.
Fox skated in 33 games with the Crimson this past season, registering nine goals and 39 assists for 48 points, along with a plus-23 rating and 14 penalty minutes. He was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award this season and was also named a First Team All-American all three seasons.
A native of Jericho, N.Y., Fox was also named the 2019 Walter Brown Award winner (best American-born college hockey player in New England), the ECAC Hockey Player of the Year, the Ivy League Player of the Year, and was selected to the ECAC Hockey First Team.
Fox skated in 97 career collegiate games over three seasons with Harvard, registering 21 goals and 95 assists for 116 points, along with a plus-45 rating and 32 penalty minutes. He led NCAA defensemen in assists and points during his three-year collegiate career, and he registered 17 more points and 19 more assists than any other NCAA defenseman over the span.
In addition, Fox led all NCAA players in assists over the course of his collegiate career. He averaged more points per game in his collegiate career (1.20) than any other NCAA defenseman over the last 20 seasons (since 1999-00).
Fox was acquired by the Rangers in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes on Apr. 30, 2019. He was originally selected by the Calgary Flames in the third round (66th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft.
