Denver announced Monday that alum Mike Christie passed away on July 11 after a battle with chronic kidney disease.
He was 69.
Christie had 15 goals, 63 assists and 78 penalty minutes in 105 games as a defenseman for the Pioneers from 1969 to 1972.
The Big Springs, Tex., native helped Denver to back-to-back Frozen Four appearances and WCHA tournament championships in 1971 and 1972, boosted the Pioneers to the 1972 WCHA regular-season championship, and served as captain for the 1971-72 season.
Following his collegiate career, Christie played nine seasons professionally, tallying 15 goals and 101 assists through 412 NHL games with the California Golden Seals, Cleveland Barons, Colorado Rockies and Vancouver Canucks.
Off the ice, Christie was a supporter of the Denver-based hockey foundation Dawg Nation.
