Whitney Colbert has stepped down from her position as Hamline head women’s hockey coach.

“I want to sincerely thank Whitney for her dedicated service to Hamline University and our women’s hockey program,” said Hamline assistant VP/athletic director Alex Focke in a statement. “She has continued to elevate our team and program and led with integrity and class. We are grateful for her contributions and wish her and her family the best.”

Colbert achieved a 56-44-1 record throughout her four seasons leading the Pipers. Her leadership at Hamline included a 15-10 overall record in the 2021-22 season, which resulted in a second-place finish in the MIAC. That season also featured a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory against Gustavus Adolphus, the eventual national runner-up. In the 2023-24 season, Colbert achieved her best record, guiding the Pipers to an 18-8 overall mark and 13-5 in MIAC play.

Throughout her Hamline career, Colbert has successfully coached All-American players such as Elizabeth Valley (2023), Jordan Hansen (2022) and Molly Garin (2022). Her coaching accolades include mentoring MIAC player of the year winners, a Sheila Brown Award recipient, and several all-conference selections.

“After much reflection, I have made the difficult decision to step down as head women’s hockey coach at Hamline University,” said Colbert. “This has not been an easy choice, but with the recent addition of our baby girl, it ultimately comes down to making the best decision for us as a family at this time.

“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Hamline University, the athletic department, and especially Alex Focke, Beth Rittler, and Chris Hartman for their unwavering support and the incredible opportunity to lead this program. It has been an absolute honor to work alongside such dedicated professionals.

“To the players and families, past and present, thank you for your trust, commitment, and passion. Together, we’ve built something truly special, and I will always be proud of what we’ve accomplished.”
