Sacred Heart Upends Connecticut, 5-1

Chris Mokos scored one goal and assisted on two others to lead Sacred Heart University past the University of Connecticut, 5-1, on Saturday evening in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at the Milford Ice Pavilion. With the loss, UConn’s record drops to 0-4-1 overall, 0-1-1 in the MAAC, while Sacred Heart improves to 2-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 in the MAAC.

Sacred Heart’s Mike Reagan opened the scoring on a power play tally at the 3:26 mark of the first period on an assist from Mokos.

Midway through the second period, Michael Goldkind received a pass from Charles Ridolf on a power play opportunity to tie the score at one. Only 5:00 minutes later, Chuck Metcalfe netted the Pioneers game-winning goal, the second Pioneer power play score of the night, also assisted by Mokos. At the 17:53 mark, Mokos netted his goal giving the Pioneers the 3-1 lead.

Reagan scored his second tally at the 11:16 mark of the third stanza with Mokos and Peter McRae assisting him. With only 1:17 remaining, Marc Andre-Fournier recorded the Pioneers final goal of the evening.

In the rough-played, penalty filled game, the Huskies and Pioneers both recorded 31 shots on goal. UConn goalie Artie Imbriano stopped 26 shots, while Alexis Jutras-Binet recorded 30 saves.

Connecticut will travel to Waltham, MA on Friday to take on MAAC opponent Bentley College and Sacred Heart will travel to take on Cornell next Saturday.
