St. Norbert Rallies From Early Deficit For Runaway Win

Despite falling behind 2-0, the St. Norbert College hockey team beat Lake Forest College 8-4 in the Green Knights’ first game at the Cornerstone Community Center in Ashwaubenon.

Lake Forest took a 2-1 lead after the first period when the Foresters scored the first two goals of the game.

Lake Forest’s Matt Bruni and Adrian Wong scored 28 seconds apart midway through the first period for a 2-0 lead, but Trent Dickson scored four minutes later on a power-play score to pull the Green Knights to within 2-1.

St. Norbert pulled even on a Chris Bodnar power-play goal, but Lake Forest answered on a David Evans score with a man advantage. St. Norbert went ahead for good on power-play goals by Maris Ziedins and Bodnar.

The Green Knights iced the game in the third on goals by Trent Dickson, Shane Dickson, Bucky Gruber and Ziedins. Shane Dickson’s and Gruber’s scorer in the third were shorthanded goals.

The game was marred by 37 penalties, 19 for St. Norbert and 18 for Lake Forest. St. Norbert finished 5-for-13 on the power play and scored seven of its eight goals on special teams. Lake Forest was 3-for-11 on the power play.

Derrick Myers stopped 19 shots for St. Norbert, while Justin Howard made 16 saves for Lake Forest.
